Take precautions when traveling abroad. These are a few simple tips; travel safe, drink safe, be safe.

Take precautions when traveling

Remembering to take precautions while traveling can keep you and those traveling with you safe. In a recent article posted by Global NEWS, NBC NEWS states that “authorities have seized 10,000 gallons of tainted alcohol after raiding more than 30 hotels and nights clubs in popular tourist spots in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Often times resorts and clubs are highly criticized and held solely responsible for all activity on their premises; however, the tainted alcohol assumed to have come from an external supplier with suspicion of “bad manufacturing practices“.

Drink Responsibly on Vacation

It is always a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings and to take extra care when traveling to all-inclusive resorts or clubs offering non-stop alcohol.

  • Drink in moderation. Be sure to drink water after every alcoholic beverage.
  • Drink your own drink. Don’t accept a drink from a stranger or share your drink with anyone.
  • Drink lots of water. Increase your water intake, especially in the heat, to avoid dizziness, nausea or weakness.
  • Drink and eat. The consumption of food will slow the absorption of alcohol
  • Drink with a buddy. Never drink alone or leave the resort/club alone when inebriated.
  • Never leave your drink. Don’t leave your drink unattended even when the bartender is making it.
  • Don’t mix your drink with medication. Unless you have consulted with a medical professional beforehand.
  • Seek help when you need. Get immediate medical attention if you begin to feel ill.
  • Report any unusual activity. Notify staff if other patrons are acting abnormal or are unresponsive.

Many Canadians are fortunate enough to escape our cold winters traveling to warm destinations offering endless beaches, sunshine, food and beverages. While on vacation, no one wants to spend their time feeling ill but instead, maximize their time and experience with friends and family.

Travel safe, drink safe, be safe.
